Wood County is located in the northern part of West Virginia. The county seat is Parkersburg. Wood County is home to over 86,000 residents. The county was established in 1820 and is named for James Wood, the governor of Virginia from 1819-1822. Wood County is home to several colleges and universities, including West Virginia University at Parkersburg and Parkersburg Community and Technical College. The county is also home to the West Virginia Oil and Gas Museum and the Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park.
