Tonto National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located in the Superstition Mountains of central Arizona. The monument protects two ancient cliff dwellings of the Salado culture: the Upper Cliff Dwelling and the Lower Cliff Dwelling. Both sites were built by the Salado people between 1250 and 1400 CE and were occupied for about 50-60 years. The Monument also contains a variety of other archaeological sites, including petroglyphs, pit houses, and pueblos.
