Motley County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,077. Its county seat is Matador. The county was created in 1876 and later organized in 1891. It is named for Junius Richard Motley, a lawyer and diplomat from Boston, Massachusetts, who served as the U.S. Minister to the Netherlands from 1861 to 1865.
