Cotton County, Oklahoma is a county located in the southwestern part of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 6,193. The county seat is Walters. The county was created in 1907 and named for the cottonwood trees that grow along its streams. Cotton County is home to Lake Altus-Lugert, one of the largest man-made lakes in Oklahoma. The county is also home to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, a popular destination for hiking, camping, and fishing.
