Carter County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of the 2010 census, the population was 45,74. The county seat is Ardmore. The county was created in 1907 from part of Love County and named for Captain Ben Carter, a Choctaw leader and Confederate veteran.
