Edgecombe County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, the population was 56,552. Its county seat is Tarboro. The county was established in 1741 from parts of Bertie County and Tyrrell County. It was named for Richard Edgecombe, Speaker of the House of Burgesses from 1724 to 1729.
