Alsip is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 19,277 at the 2010 census. It is a suburb of Chicago. Alsip was settled in 1833 and originally known as Centerville. It was renamed Alsip-on-the-Ridge because of its location on a ridge of land between the Little Calumet River and Plum Creek. In the 1850s, the village was home to a station on the Underground Railroad. Alsip is home to a number of businesses, including a large cemetery and several funeral homes.
