North Hills is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. The community is located about 12 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles and just east of the Ventura Freeway (SR-134). North Hills was originally part of the Rancho San Fernando de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles, a Spanish land grant dating back to 1784. The area was developed in the mid-20th century as part of the post-World War II suburban growth in the Los Angeles area.
